From the moment visitors walk through our door, it’s clear just what makes Spark Response so unique. Our culture, our approach to people, the family orientated way we work, and our heritage begin to tell the Spark story, and how we’ve been so successful at what we do.

Spark Response was incorporated in 1999, however our story really starts in the early 1980s when a predecessor business was formed with bases at Milton Keynes and Washington, Tyne & Wear. Founded as a traditional direct mailing company, we worked with a number of national brands specialising in response handling and off-the-page mail order. In 1988, the company started to answer telephone calls on behalf of its direct mail clients – the humble beginnings of what is now our contact centre division.

As the business grew, in 1996, we moved to a custom-built unit on a brand new business park and became the estate’s first tenant. This was Unit 1, Follingsby Park, now a thriving hub for North East businesses and home to over 30 companies. We’re still based at Unit 1, Follingsby Park and the business has continued to grow rapidly since then. Why we’ve been so successful for so long in an ever-changing marketplace is down to our approach to progression.

Spark’s journey to becoming the business it is today took a new direction in 2002 when a consortium of investors purchased the company. In 2006, our current Managing Director Peter Slee took over as head of the business with Noel Lambert replacing Peter as Operations Director early the following year.

In 2010 we added another string to our bow by acquiring the assets of Ethical Superstore, an eCommerce retailer of ethically sourced gifts, gadgets and groceries. The move saw us become not just a service provider, but a retailer in our own right. Since then, we’ve added other eCommerce brands to our portfolio through our sister company Spark Etail, led by Noel Lambert as Managing Director.

In 2018, we were acquired by The Whistl Group and are thrilled to now be part of the Whistl family.  As of 2019, we are a stable and profitable business with a real brand identity, tangible personality and a fantastic award-winning culture with our people at the very heart of everything we do.
